Students who enter our program come from all over the United States and occasionally from foreign countries. Boys and girls range in age between 13 and 18 years of age.
Our students experience intensive activities over a 9-12 month period of time so that they can successfully internalize changes and go on to lead productive and happy lives as part of their family and community. Most families have tried several other interventions to assist their child in choosing healthy and productive activities, but for a variety of reasons the child has not been successful with these interventions or their success was short-lived.
Students come to us with many different issues, but most share a few things in common: behavioral problems, difficulty with authority figures, conflict within the family, difficulty following rules, and low self-esteem. They may have been diagnosed with Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Conduct Disorder, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety Issues, Learning Issues, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Adjustment Disorder, Substance Use or Abuse, or any of several unhealthy personality traits. Many of our students have a difficult time navigating interpersonal relationships in a healthy way, causing distress for parents about their friendships, romantic relationships, and relationships within the family.
Academically, our students are average or above average in intelligence. Many have had opportunities for the best education, but chose not to take advantage of that. Typically, our students have previously disliked school and demonstrated this dislike by refusing to do schoolwork, skipping classes, and threatening to or actually dropping out of school. Many of our students qualify for special education services. The small classroom size, academic staff’s understanding of treatment issues, and the accommodation of learning styles can help your child to succeed in this nurturing and structured academic setting.
